Let me breathe within a valley of kindness.
Let me breathe amongst a people full of love.
Let me breathe where the air is sweet
like honey;
where pain’s forgotten history
and humanity is humanity’s beloved.
Let me breathe
surrounded by an eternal garden,
planted within untroubled soil.
Let me breathe the perfume of tranquility,
instead of old civilization’s
old sweat and turmoil.
The promise of my hopes
are beckoning;
as wide and never-ending as
the sea.
‘Till then, I breathe beneath my burdens;
not quite prisoner,
not quite free.
