Her stomach’s closed up something awful lately,
and she knows the reason why.
Something’s telling her things shouldn’t be the way they are
and it’s easier on her body to go hungry
than to cry.
Reality ain’t somethin’ she wanna recollect
but it’s burrowed into the girl’s brain,
like an insect on speed.
She don’t recall when they flipped it all around
but they did it fast,
and their way of thinkin’ ain’t what she needs.
It’s gonna be a hard life for this creature
in between the stars—
not enough light.
She is surely starved
and in tatters,
but still holdin’ to a little piece of fight.
She’s lost her appetite lately
and just tryin’ to hold on
to the meaning of what will be.
Maybe one day she’ll be hungry again.
Maybe one day she’ll be free.
